Performance Pillars
As has been referenced earlier, STRIVE is about the evaluation of the whole athlete and the importance of taking a holistic approach to development. As such, each level within the framework includes tasks that sit inside one of these 5 elements. There are 5 elements that are evaluated at each level – Life Skills, Physical Skills, Mental Skills, Skiing Skills and Complimentary Skills.
- Life Skills
Intrapersonal Skills – more internal in nature
(e.g., focus, perseverance, goal setting, emotional regulation)
Interpersonal Skills – more useful during social interactions.
(e.g., sportspersonship, honesty, teamwork, respect). - Physical Skills
Execution of physical and athletic skills of motor performance. - Mental Skills
Cognitive skills, from the perspective of the acquisition of knowledge, whether it be technical, tactical, decision making or strategic knowledge and affective skills, from the point of view of attitudes, mindset, emotional control and ethical behavior. - Skiing Skills
Execution of technical and tactical skills of performance while ski racing. - Complementary Skills
Knowledge of the sport, equipment, rules, culture, history, human performance requirements.
