Evaluation Matrix
Evaluations for each task in the Alpine Canada STRIVE program are completed based on criteria specific to the stage of skill development of the skier. See the tables below for more details.
Stages of Skill Development |
|
---|---|
Initiation |
First contact with the skill and may not understand what to do. Coach can see that task is being executed in its gross and mechanical form, major improvements are needed. Can repeat the task often with low precision. |
Acquisition |
Can perform tasks at own pace in a stable, predictable and distraction free environment. Coach can see that task is being executed in its general form, major improvements are needed. Can repeat the task often with moderate precision. |
Consolidation |
Correct execution in variable conditions. Speed is increased moderately. Movements are getting more precise and consistent. |
Refinement |
Minor improvement needed High degree of precision and consistency in movements Can perform skill at fast speed without fault |
Creative Variation |
The movement is perfect under complex situations. The skier can spontaneously use novel combinations of movements to cope with unexpected situations. Movements become more unique and an athletes own personal way of doing things are individual, intuitive and the skill is performed automatically. |
